"Mindfulness Course helping with quality of life"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Sligo Adult Community Mental Health Services

(as a service user),

After struggling with severe bouts of depression all my life, I was delighted to get the opportunity to participate in this mindfulness course, as I had heard from others that it was very beneficial.

I gained lots of tools and knowledge which I can put into practice for future use.

I'm very grateful for this course and hope this course is made more widely available so that others who struggle with mental health difficulties may avail of it to improve their quality of life.

Dear Marilyn

Thank you for sharing your experience of attending the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy programme organised on behalf of the HSE Mental Health Services Sligo Leitrim.

I am delighted that you have gained lots of tools and knowledge which you can put into practice to deal with your own experience of depression. The importance of taking some time daily to practice mindfulness is essential. The phone app. "Headspace" is a free downloadable programme for the first 30 days which can help people to learn and practice mindfulness. The "3 Minute Breathing Space" is also useful which can be located through Google.

There are plans to run this programme in 2019 and I hope that people who read this will be encouraged to attend as a means of dealing with mental health difficulties and improving their quality of life.

Thank you for your inspirational story and I wish you well in the future.

Denis
