My mam suffered a major stroke but got immediate treatment which gave us great hope for a good recovery ..thats where it ends. She was moved around so much to different parts of St James Hospital that she caught infection after infection. In the "rehab" unit I caught a nurse taping my mams fingers together on her good hand, I asked why and she said to stop my mam from putting her hand up to food rig which had been inserted into her nose, I told her to remove the tape which she did angrily.
I also had to fight for what hospital staff call a special ( nurse /carer to sit with mam so food could go in ). My mam was 68 years old and fully independent up untl the stroke. sadly mam passed away 14 weeks later. Stroke is a big killer in Ireland but services are poor. Thanks for the chance to share this.
