"Excellent Care for mothers and babies "

Both my sisters had their second babies at the Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise recently and both were more than happy with the high standard of care they received. The midwives were very professional, very attentive and caring. My nephew was born with a very serious heart condition which so easily could have been fatal or have had serious brain complications if it wasn't for the aptness and very fast response of the delivery midwife, the team of specialist nurses and paediatricians in the SCBU (special care baby unit) at the Hospital. I cannot praise all staff concerned highly enough for their excellent and competent care. The baby had to be rushed to Crumlin Children's hospital which the staff at Portlaoise, organised and following his transfer, accommodation was promptly sought for my sister at the Coombe to facilitate her with being near the baby.

We shall ever be indebted to the staff at Crumlin Children's hospital Dublin for their dedication and expertise. From the Critical Care Team, Cardiologists, Cardiothoracic surgeon, the ICU nursing staff and the staff of new children's heart centre who treated all of us with respect and kindness. Each and every member of your team were so informative. One can only imagine the trauma of having to hand over your 5 -day old baby for open heart surgery. All of you are a true example of dedication and commitment and competently complete patient advocacy and delivery of the highest standard personalised care to those so venerable. We can all rest easy as a nation, knowing that our sick children will be in very safe hands. Thanks to all of you, my nephew was discharged from hospital 5 weeks post open heart surgery and Mum and baby is doing great.

I have delivered all my children at the Maternity unit in Portlaoise and can only commend the unit and the midwives highly. Crumlin's cardiology and cardio-thoracic units are up there ranking among the best.
