I entered the mental health system in I think April of 24. I have to say Ive had the best care and advice since then. I understood that there would be waiting periods to get appointments but i think it was 3 months before my 1st appointment. I was referred and later diagnosed with ADHD, i was also referred to an addiction councillor, thought i didnt need one! Turned out i really did! I had to go through the addiction counselling before i could get any further appointments as to be medicated and receive the help i needed I had to be 'clean'. I then received OT occupational therapy. Again amazing people in the building block ADHD clinic in sligo town. I cant thank them enough for the support and kind nature of all involved.
Shortly after I was referred to a family therapist in St Columba's campus in sligo town. My therapist Marina, is the most wonderful woman, understanding, patient and kind... she has helped me understand, regulate, and given me endless ways of thinking and navigating my life and my thought process. My perception and awareness of life and myself has changed drastically. I was so hesitant entering any types of services, but honestly its all changed my life for the better. I cant believe ive completely turned my life around with the help of all of the above.
My advice, ask for the help, be willing to do the work, they can give you all the help and advice in the world but ultimately you have to put the advice into action. Its not been easy at times and admitting truths to yourself is hard, but its 100% worth it in the end!
"Ive turned my life around"
