I had cause to be referred to the Suicide crisis assessment service. The initial interaction was with a nurse at my local GP medical centre. I found her to be very understanding and knowledgeable.
She helped me see a way forward. The initial meeting was followed up by several telephone calls to check in on how I was doing. She gave excellent advice and guidance. Her kind and caring attitude will never be forgotten.
I wish more people new that this help is available. In my ignorance I felt by admitting that I was struggling with mental health my life and career would be finished. I did not realise that it was possible to be on medication and function relatively normally and hold down a responsible job.
The nurse made me see that this was possible and I'm grateful to her for this. She was very kind respectful and knowledgable and a credit to her profession. I hope more people in my circumstances come forward and seek help when needed.
