"Given me light in the darkest of times"

I have had depression and anxiety with insomnia for most my life and never slept without sedatives which in turn affected my mood severely. I attempted suicide in March 2025. My low mood got so bad I attended hospital and was seen by the mental health crisis team in Sligo as I had not slept in weeks. They drive to the house daily to see me and talk with me.

I was commenced on anti depressants and anti psychotics. They closely monitored and adjusted and changed medications until a therapeutic dose was reached. I started sleeping again and after a few weeks the dark cloud and racing thoughts were lifted off me and for the first time in years I felt a huge weight lifted from me. Energy slowly came back and with their supportive and encouraging treatment I started to exercise again I started to wash and dress again and had motivation for the first time in years.

They gave me hope they gave me another chance at life. All of the multi disciplinary team were so experienced they truly listened and cared and I have never had help like this in my life. Each day they left I felt inspired to get out the house and move my body. They gave me coping strategies which greatly helped me and they were always on the end of the phone when I needed them.

I honestly can’t thank them enough for them giving me my life back for giving me hope again for giving me light in the darkest of times. I truly feel that without the mental health crisis team I would not be here. I am so excited to restart my life and enjoy all it has to offer. If anyone reads this and is suffering with any mental health condition, just know that it will pass and there will be light and hope again at the end of the tunnel.

I am forever grateful for each and every one of the multi skilled team that treated me. Mental health can be a cruel debilitating disease that strips you of everything but it can be healed like any disease, so keep fighting the fight and pushing through and know that you too can be well again.
