"Misdiagnosed with cancer"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Crisis Resolution Team

(as a service user),

Hi i seen the crisis team when I was misdiagnosed with cancer. They were very quick to meet me 2 people very professional and understanding. They said they would phone me at 9am i didn't get the call until after 1 o'clock which made me very anxious so when they say a time it should be that time because when you're in a very anxious state it makes things worse.

Leaving that behind because everyone is human and things don't always go to plan this not a criticism in any way towards the 2 people I met with. When I got the call I was assured that I would see a consultant psychiatrist and was seen at 4 o'clock same day of which I'm very grateful.  The psychiatrist was very good and understanding because it wasn't just the misdiagnosed cancer but I had been suffering mental health issues for 25 years or more. She changed my medication and everything was on my terms which was very reassuring I can't speak highly enough about the service I will give it 9 out of 10 it would have been 10 if the phone call was at the time I was told.so thank you very much for everything it was a life changing experience for me with the proper medication.  Many thanks

Dear The herb,

Thank you very much for your feedback and for your understanding regarding the phone call. I apologise for that oversight, and we are certainly more mindful of the anxiety that people may experience when waiting for us to contact them – thank you for highlighting that. We are all glad that your experience otherwise was positive and that you felt reassured. It is important that we work with the person in front of us on their terms, and we are glad that that was your experience of us.

We all wish you the very best going forward.

Kind regards,

Dr E Gethins
