"Struggles with anxiety and fear of trying new things."

About: Independent sector / Ballymote FRC Family Therapeutic Services

(as a parent/guardian),

About 2 years ago my son started to avoid school, complaining of stomach upsets. He also started to avoid going to new places. He would seem upset but not tell me what was bothering him. It came to a head when he refused to go on a school tour and he told me he doesn't like going places where he can't see an open exit, so he dislikes buses.

This was due to him getting stuck in a neighbours van the previous year with his friends. I was very concerned as I wanted him to enjoy life and not be fearful of trying new things. I knew he needed help so contacted the local family resources centre and about a year later David started play therapy with a great therapist.

This has helped him open up and be brave about sharing his feelings and trying new things. He still has some work to do but he is in the right path. It has also helped me in understanding his personality better.

Thank you very much for your feedback, we really value it. We are so glad to hear that we could support you and your son and that he is open now to trying new things.
