"Our daughters panic attacks came out of the blue"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Sligo Child and Adolescent Community Mental Health Services

(as a parent/guardian),

Our 12 year old daughter developed severe anxiety and a fear of fainting which lead to panic attacks. It happened suddenly and unexpectedly! She gave up everything she loved out of a fear of fainting which would cause her to become anxious and have a panic attack. My husband and myself where worried sick about her and after alot of doc appts and private referrals, we eventually got seen by CAMHS in sligo. This was a turning point in our journey. They team in sligo were very attentive from the start we told our story and when they realised how bad our daughter was suffering and could not attend school or leave the house for that matter they took her on board.

We first met with Siobhan a clinical nurse and she is very good at her job! She is very knowledgeable and helpful in getting our daughter to engage which took time and support. Siobhan even called to our home to work with our daughter. She is currently attending psychology with Catherine senior clinical psychologist and CBT for her blood/fainting phobia. Catherine is brilliant at her job she is very understanding and informative of these conditions and so knows what treatment suits best. Our experience with CAMHS was a positive one and we would not be as far along as we are today without their professional and caring manner.
I also want to mention the administrative/front desk staff who were always so nice and helpful.

Dear Sierra,

Thank you so much for posting such lovely feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to send it.

I am delighted to hear how attentive and understanding our team in CAMHS were to you and your family. I am very happy that you had a positive experience from visiting reception right through to treatment. Both our admin and clinical staff work very hard to provide the best service they can and are always delighted to be commended for it.

It is great news that CAMHS was a turning point for your daughter and I wish her and your family well for the future.

Thanks again for the feedback, it means a lot and helps us plan for our future service by knowing what we do well. I forwarded your feedback to the team.

Kind regards,

Eilis Peoples
