"EMDR therapy helped with the trauma"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services

(as a service user),

I was knocked down by a car, suffered great pain, nightmares and constant stressful images of the impact noise and trauma associated with the accident.

I was unable to rid myself of any of the above issues until I decided to undertake a course of EMDR Therapy. I soon discovered after a few sessions that I was having more restful periods and as the sessions progressed I overcame all the demons and sleepless nights by simply using the EMDR techniques at home and perfecting them until I dismantled all the negative stuff and put all the trauma behind me.

I have no hesitation in recommending EMDR to anyone. Work with it and you will win.

I meet with service users and sometimes with their families. I assess psychological problems and provide psychological interventions in an effort to help service users overcome their difficulties.

Dear limaqw67,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of receiving EMDR for your symptoms from the Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services. I am so pleased that it has helped to resolve your difficulties.

As you probably know, EMDR is abbreviated for 'Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy', a psychotherapy treatment that is used to treat mental health conditions that happen because of memories from traumatic events in a persons' past. EMDR is best known for its role in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), but its use is certainly expanding to include treatment of many other conditions/difficulties (e.g phobias). It is a treatment that can be used with children, young people and adults. Further information on this treatment can be found at https://emdrireland.org/

Recently Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health and Primary Care HSE Services trained a number of clinicians in the use of EMDR (myself included!) and it is great that this treatment modality is more accessible than it was before.

You do not mention what service you attended where you accessed EMDR but I will certainly share your story with the EMDR Therapists in the area.

Thank you again for your time providing feedback to Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services.

Wishing you well.

With thanks,

Joanne
