"Baby steps in the beginning"

About: Child and Adolescent Mental Services / CAMHS - South Team

(as a parent/guardian),

We were referred to the Camhs team and our expectations were low at the time as we had attended various different services prior to this but from day one we felt that someone took control and understood the situation. We went from feeling very overwhelmed to having a plan by the end of session one.

The therapist listened and understood both the adult and teenagers perspective and was able to get both sides on to the same page. We attended for over two years with improvements noticeable after the first month. Although it seemed like baby steps at the beginning and we were doubtful of some of the suggestions they worked. We both committed to the plan and the outcome spoke for themselves.

The final therapy was EMDR and although neither of us heard of it before and it sounded strange the results spoke for themselves. The waiting times to be seen initially may be long but once your are seen the whole team will do the very best they can for you but you must also commit to the process and listen to the experts.
