"I was made so welcome"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Occupational Therapy Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Sligo Leitrim Psychiatry of Later Life

(as a service user),

I started to attend Liscarney House, Pearse Road, Sligo in Sept 21.

I was referred there by my GP as I was suffering from anxiety and was having panic attacks and was also not sleeping well.

From the moment I attended there I felt like I was made so welcome and given a cup of tea to help me relax. I was later seen by a nurse who took my history and then later that day by a doctor who gave me such a relaxed feeling and it felt like I was going to get the help I needed.

I attended two days a week for approx 2 months and had group meetings to deal with the anxiety and meeting the other patients and sharing problems. I also had a meeting with occupational therapy. I found the anxiety management was excellent and I am dealing with it well.

I am a different person and I am so happy I got such help and kindness shown to me at all times and I am finishing in a few weeks time and I can get back in touch at any time, but I feel great at the moment.

Dear Songthrushrb54,

thank you for sharing your experience of attending the acute day hospital at Liscarney House. I am delighted to hear that the multidisciplinary team there were able to help you at a time when you felt you needed help the most. Anxiety, as you know, can be both frightening and disabling but it is something we can learn to better manage with a little help at the right time.

I am happy to hear that you are managing your anxiety well and that you are feeling confident about continuing to do so. The skills and strategies you have developed over the time you attended Liscarney House should continue to serve you well into the future.

Thanks again for your feedback. Happy Christmas to you and yours and may 2022 be filled with joy.

Best wishes,

Kevin
