(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I am delighted that the Donegal Mental Health team have  service user representatives involved in ensuring service users feedback is acknowledged and acted upon.  This is a wonderful step but would love more focus on recovery training involving professionals and service users and inviting mental health staff, service users and their family to attend the same. Many people are not clear on the service users right to self-determination and that they should have an active role in their own treatment plan if able to do so.

Hi Jodip,

Thank you for sharing on Care Opinion. I wholeheartedly agree with your perspective on recovery training and involvement in treatment planning. These are elements that often feature strongly when we talk to people using mental health services so they are key areas of focus for mental health engagement and recovery.

As Area Lead for Mental Health Engagement we host online engagement meetings throughout the year for people using mental health services in Donegal and their supporters. At these meetings we share feedback on what worked well for people and what needs improving. If you would like more information or to attend our next meeting please feel free to email or call me. The final meeting of the year takes place tomorrow 30th of November (online or via phone).
