"Mental Health Issues-Anxiety & Depression"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Sligo Leitrim Psychiatry of Later Life

(as a service user),

I was feeling anxious and down in my mood, I was referred to Liscarney House, Sligo by my doctor.

I attended Liscarney and was put on medications. As a result of the medications, in my opinion, I am now in a much better place. I was very well looked after in Liscarney. I am happy with the treatment and the attention I have received.

The staff in Liscarney were friendly and respectful in my treatment plan.

It would be good to have more parking facilities.

Dear ServiceUser2020,

thank you for sharing your experiences of attending Liscarney House, Acute Mental Health Day Hospital for Later Life, Sligo. I am delighted to hear that you are "in a better place" and that your engagement with Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services for Later Life, and particularly the Day Hospital, has been helpful in facilitating your recovery and provided you with the support you needed at the time you needed it most.

Anxiety and depression can have profound negative effects on an individual and their families. Medications can play a significant role in helping to lift mood. Equally important is the understanding about anxiety and depression and the actions (behaviours) we as individuals take to change the things we do so as to impact positively on how we feel. Engaging with others, maintaining good physical health, giving ourselves the opportunity to have fun and satisfaction, remaining hopeful and optimistic about the future...all contribute to helping us feel better. Relaxation and anxiety management approaches also allow us to better manage those times when we feel anxious and low. The support and understanding from our family and friends also plays an important part in helping us to return to better health.

I am pleased that you felt included and respected in your recovery care plan and am delighted that you feel your health has improved. I hope you continue to feel stronger and wish you well in your recovery journey.

Finally, thank you for identifying the parking difficulties at Liscarney House. We will continue to try to develop/expand the parking area.

Best wishes,

Kevin
