(as a service user),

Hello, I am on the DBT waiting list for over 9 months now. I am about to go to college and do not know what to do because I am still waiting for DBT in Sligo. If I want to study in Limirick or Dublin for example can my DBT location be changed without having to wait all over again? OR am I supposed to wait for my turn in Sligo only? I cant choose a college far from Sligo until I get my answer thank you

I would like to apologise for the long delay that you have experienced in accessing the DBT Service. We are a small group of therapists who offer DBT to all of Sligo / Leitrim. As DBT is a one year therapy for each client we, unfortunately, have a long waiting list. We regularly review the waiting list and try our best to minimise the wait time.

Congratulations on your plan to attend college. Unfortunately the Sligo / Leitrim DBT Service has no influence over waiting lists in other parts of the country as they are in separate Services. It may be best to contact the Adult Mental Health Service in Limerick or Dublin and clarify whether they have a DBT Service and if so what the wait time may be.

Might I suggest that you contact your local Adult Mental Health Service and through them contact Aine Finan, Senior Clinical Psychologist who is the DBT lead in Sligo / Leitrim. We may be able to answer questions that you have more directly.
