"Living Well Course was really helpful"

About: General Practice Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Sligo Adult Community Mental Health Services

(as a service user),

Thank you so much for the opportunity to attend this course. I have found it really helpful especially the 3 minute breathing space and the mindful movement.   These tools   have really helped me more in the last few weeks than anything else that I have tried in the last year. I find it really helps with my anxiety, depression and panic attacks. it is a tool I can come back to again and again and one I will continue to use.

I meet with service users and sometimes with their families. I assess psychological problems and provide psychological interventions in an effort to help service users overcome their difficulties.

Dear Claire,

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on your experience attending the Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy Group which was delivered by Dr Paula Martin.

The research supporting the benefits of mindfulness and groups such as the one you attended is extremely encouraging. Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services recognise such benefits and that is why we provide funding for these programmes and refer people who attend our services.

Mindfulness is a practice that I also try to bring to each day. Finding the time to practice mindfulness is sometimes tricky with the busyness of life and that is why the 3-minute breathing space feels so accessible.

For anyone reading this who may be intrigued about what this is, you can Google '3-minute breathing space' and you tube has lots of videos/audios on it. A great app to help learn about and practice mindfulness is called 'Headspace' which is free to download for the first 30 days.

Claire, I wish you well in your continued practice of mindfulness and may I end this with my favourite quote from Jon Kabat-Zinn about how Mindfulness can help in our lives:

'You can't stop the waves, but (through mindfulness ) you can learn how to surf'

Wishing you a happy and peaceful Christmas full of mindful moments, Claire.

Joanne
