"Anxiety is not just for Christmas!"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services

(as a service user),

A few years ago I was going round in a circle of depressed about being anxious and anxious about being depressed. I got to go for CBT a few years ago and this gave me my life back, but (is it there always a but! ) I hit a wall again for one reason or another & while I tried to use what I learned before I just couldn’t get out of the hole I was in, hand on heart the best thing I did was to ask for help, as in more CBT. mind you I had to ask a number of times to be referred but I got there in the end and I have to say everyone I dealt with have been so lovely. Yes, it’s hard to admit you have anxiety, but you know what it’s a whole lot better than lying on a couch with no interest in anything, afraid to go out of the house etc.

I’ve just finished my sessions with Eugene in Sligo & all I will say is Bless him, long may he do the great work he does. So if you have anxiety or are depressed, ask for help, it’s excellent, don’t worry about anything else but getting your life back on track, as they say “your life, your journey”.

Jay,

Thank you for your complimentary words. We have placed great emphasis and efforts in relation to making our services more accessible and streamlined for members of the public. We firmly believe that 'talking therapies' such as CBT and others, are hugely beneficial and for these reasons we have began to train more frontline staff in the usage of such skills.

To assist people further, we have developed 7 day mental health services, with the aim of providing support for people outside the hours of Monday to Friday. We very much appreciate your feedback, as it reassures us that the services we are providing are doing what we designed them to do.

I wish you well in your continued recovery.

All the best

Tomas Murphy

Area Director of Nursing, SLMHS
