"Cold and scary hospital building"

About: Sligo Leitrim Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit

(as a service user),

I stayed on a hospital ward in St Columbas in Sligo. I felt that the building is cold and scary. I hated the big doors and the yellow walls. it didnt feel safe and it could be more cosy and comfortable. I spent most of the time alone with nothing to do and the nurses never checked on me or anything.

Dear Myra

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience on the hospital ward at St Columba's and I am sorry you found it so inhospitable. Unfortunately this is an old building with very few modern features however at present the building is being decorated throughout, some new furniture has been ordered and we are working hard to make everywhere more comfortable.

The good news if that our hospital service will be moving to new premises at the end of 2019 based at Sligo University Hospital. This new facility will be modern and purpose built and stories like yours go a long way to helping us provide the sort of service that should make clients feel safe and comfortable.

I thank you again for taking the time to tell us your story

Regards

Joy
