"Mental Health"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services

(as the patient),

After leaving a long term abusive relationship, I found myself alone, living in a refuge away from family and friends.

I had a major crisis involving intense emotional pain, feelings of abandonment, loss and desperation. Suicidal thoughts were the norm for me, I could not stop crying.

I went to see the local, female Doctor, and she referred me to a mental health nurse. The nurse (male! ) came to see the very same day and instantly relieved me of the most severe feelings I had, including suicide. From then on I met him on a weekly basis, conveniently in the town I then lived, which helped immensely with my anxieties and mental turmoil.

I have since had counseling within the regional mental health services, and have significantly moved away from the state I was then in.

Dear M,

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your story and details of contact with the Sligo Leitrim Mental Health Service. I will be sure to let the Multi-Disciplinary Team, including the Nurses, know that the Community-based service worked well for you and that their efforts were appreciated.

Best of luck in your continued recovery.
