"The mental health service changed my life"

About: Sligo Leitrim Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services

(as the patient),

I was experiencing Depression, minor addiction, and severe general anxiety. I had to leave my job, my apartment my circle of friends. I couldn't sleep or eat or face the world. Walking to the shop felt like I was wearing my problems and everyone could see. Paranoia, substance abuse. I spent 5 weeks in St. Columbus, I've been seeing Joanne and Fergal since, took part in 6 weeks stress management course. Art class with OT. The stress management class and counselling were good. The mental health service changed my life.

My only suggestions for improvements are that I think some of the nurses could have been more supportive and the food could be healthier.

I meet with service users and sometimes with their families. I assess psychological problems and provide psychological interventions in an effort to help service users overcome their difficulties.

Dear B

Many thanks for sharing your experience of the Sligo Mental Health Service. I know my colleague Joy has acknowledged the feedback you provided about the food in the inpatient unit and that she will speak to the catering department about it.

Its great to hear that the support you have received by attending individual counselling and the stress management group has been helpful to you at a difficult time in your life. The team will really appreciate your feedback.

May I wish you well in your continued recovery.

Joanne
