"Help during and after a crisis."

About: Sligo General Hospital / Psychiatry Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services

(as a carer),

The person I care for and myself, would particularly commend the 1-1 contact which is very helpful. Access to the CBT psychologists is superb, the day classes are all excellent and useful. Sharon got my husbands appetite back with all her lovely food. We have the most contact with Kevin Frances and Louise.

The important thing in the first week when things were really difficult were tel calls at 9. 00 to check I was ok. They then got less as time went on but it was the attention to detail that mattered. When my partner was first admitted in an emergency to St Columbas, they really wanted him to stay in but he refused. What was so important then was the the nurse phoned up day services and they got in touch straight away.  It felt like services were joined up which really helped.  My husband was so thankful that he got the opportunity to follow this option.  There is something about Liscarney House it feels like a safe haven.

Also the staff there have introduced my husband and I to other services and given the confidence to use them.

This is not a criticism but a suggestion, it would be so good if Liscarney and other services were available 7 days a week and 24 hours a day.  Mental illness and depression happen all through the week.
