"Care for my daughter during difficult time"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Sligo Adult Community Mental Health Services

(as a relative),

My daughter was diagnosed with a serious mental illness in 2007. She was seventeen. To say this was a devestating time for us all is an under estimation..We were referred to the local mental health service in Easkey, Co Sligo.

Our traumatic journey was made so much easier by the consultant psychiatrist Dr Eoin  & the Community mental health nurse James. Most of my interaction is with James who cannot be commended enough on his commitment, work ethic, tact & understanding of and ability to deal with situations as they present themselves.

I meet with service users and sometimes with their families. I assess psychological problems and provide psychological interventions in an effort to help service users overcome their difficulties.

Dear Marie C,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience of your local mental health service. It's really helpful for us to get feedback such as yours and to be able to thank staff for the work that they do. I will certainly pass on your story to James and Dr Eoin whose care and understanding you write so positively about.

Can I take this opportunity to mention to you about a mental health information programme for service users with schizophrenia spectrum illness and bipolar illness, which may be relevant to your daughter and the family?

The Eolas Programme consists of two parrallel programmes, each lasting 8 weeks, a programme for service users and a programme for families /close friends. These programmes are delivered by two co-facilitators, one of whom is a peer facilitator (I.e. a service user or family member) and the other a clinician. The next family programme is due to begin in March 2017. If you would like further information about the programme you can contact James or myself. My email is joanne.ohalloran@hse.ie

Marie C, thank you again for taking the time to share your experience.

May I wish you, your daughter and all your family a very happy and peaceful 2017.

Sincere regards,

Joanne.
