"Orthopaedic Department"

(as the patient),

After a bad car accident I have seen 3 different orthopaedic consultants in Mayo General, the 1st said I'd fully recover from my injuries within 2 years (that's been and gone! ), the 2nd sent me for an MRI (after x-rays which didn't show any breaks etc. ) which showed I had a bulging disc in my lower spine- he gave me 2 weeks of a prescription of Lyrica, pretty much said 'good luck', no follow-up appointment, he didn't say what I was to do after the 2 weeks- the withdrawal symptoms from these meds are certainly not for the faint hearted! I then requested that I be referred to a 3rd Dr- and even though I got epidurals etc. to try ease the pain here I am 3 years later still in severe pain, unable to sit or stand and I basically do not think the doctor has an idea of my what my problem is! ! ! I have been referred me to a pain specialist in UHG and for the first time in 3 years I feel that someone has finally listened to me regards my injuries- I have had several thoughts of suicide as a result of my pain and of course countless wasted money on various meds and scans and I feel that the doctors in that department aren't interested unless they are down for surgery! ! ! I am glad I have been referred simply because that doctor has a different approach to his patients- he listens to them and basically doesn't shun them off as that's exactly how I felt there- I felt as if I was a fraud and that my injuries were in my head- which of course lead me towards suicide! . How are Dr's. even allowed to reduce patients to this level? Surely there must be something in place where they talk to each other with regards their patients situation and work together to help them?
