"My experience in Limerick Regional Hospital"

About: Mid Western Regional / Emergency department Mid Western Regional / Gastroenterology Mid Western Regional / Respiratory medicine

(as the patient),

Over the last five years my health deteriorated quite significantly and included breast cancer. Post reconstruction, I started vomiting uncontrollably. I was sent home twice by my doctor (a respiratory doctor?) it was only when I attended a third time that I was put under the care of a gastroenterologist. Each time I had to spend a minimum of two days in A&E on a trolley. Despite having diabetes, I received no meals. All that was available was a sandwich service. Staff members were overworked, the A&E was overcrowded and the patients were being moved from post to pillar like so much baggage. When I eventually did get a bed, I was moved around there as well and spent time in a number of wards. In all I spent six weeks in hospital and found it to be a quite distressing time. The staff, cleaners and others should be given a medal for having to work under these conditions.
