"Poor end of life care"

About: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital / Accident & Emergency Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital / Oncology

(as a relative),

I would like to provide some feedback of my late grandmothers treatment whilst in the care of the HSE. She was 91 years old and had pancreatic cancer. When her condition worsened and she was in constant pain, she was admitted to A&E at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co. Louth and left on a trolley in a corridor for 48 hours as there were no beds available (this was the second time over the course of her illness that she was left on a trolley for over 24 hours). Surely in this day and age we can expect better treatment from our health service. It is no longer acceptable to leave patients on trolleys overnight, particularly those in the end stages of life. I know it is a common problem in Ireland, but something needs to be done to ensure people are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
