"Maternity Services"

About: St Lukes General

(as the patient),

Following the birth of my first child I was transferred to the post-natal ward, up to that point my care had been excellent with friendly and competent staff, unfortunately it changed on my arrival to the ward. No staff member introduced themselves, I was left alone with no explanation of help with my first experience of a newborn. A kind patient in the ward eventually had to offer me help. IV lines were left connected when the fluids had finished, urinary catheter wasn't emptied when the drainage bag was stretched to capacity. I felt alone and a burden to the, admittedly, busy staff. My background is in healthcare so I am aware of stresses staff are under but even so I felt the care fell down in some areas.
